As most of you know, I’m a huge lover of Instagram and I use it daily. I personally think it’s a very useful social media platform for bloggers as it’s very visual and attracting to the eye when you do it the right way. Now, I’m not saying there’s one specific way that’s the right way. However, it is important to stand out from the crowd since there are so many girls and young woman out there all trying to become a so called ‘online influencer’. And to be able to stand out, it’s important to find your own personal style for your content on Instagram. In this post I will share some tips on how I got where I am now considering the style of my Instagram content.

A good way to find your own style is by looking at the content of people you admire on Instagram. Really try to look at what it is that they do to make their Instagram feed look so appealing. Ask yourself what you like so much about their style. Are there any specific photo’s – flatlays, outfit photos, interior, makeup photos etc. – that you keep on coming back to? This way you will get an idea of what you personally like and maybe you can implement some of these ideas into your own content. I do have to say one important thing, getting inspired by people is completely different from copying. It’s perfectly fine to get motivated by someone else’s work, but never try to replicate someone else’s content! In the end this won’t bring you anywhere, because the whole point is to create you OWN style to be able to stand out from the crowd. Your own style is what will make you different from the rest, and that’s something you should aim for.

You can experiment with styles in different ways, for example by trying out different ways of editing your photos. Do you like bright photos, saturated photos, warm toned photos or photos with a lot of contrast? Just try it out and see what you like! Soon enough you will find something you love, but if you never try you never know. The same goes for the objects, materials and products you use in your photos. For example, I personally like to use white and clean backgrounds. As for products and objects I like to use things with a minimalistic look. Again, just experiment with it! When I look back at my old feed, my content consisted of makeup products on a plain white background – not the most exciting and outstanding content. But I just tried and now I’m here with all the knowledge about what I like and what I don’t. I feel like style is also a continuous process, and you will find out more and more about your style over time.

Pinterest is another great tool to get ideas and get inspired when it comes to photography. I definitely recommend creating a board on Pinterest just for photos that fit your Instagram style. I personally have a board on my Pinterest called ‘instainspo’ on which I pin all photos that would look good in my Instagram feed. This way you unconsciously get ideas about what kind of content you like for your Instagram. When I feel uninspired to create content, I just have a look through this Pinterest board and I will always get some ideas from it. Again, stay away from copying other people’s work, just use it as a tool to get inspired and motivated to create your own.

Getting inspired is always good, however creating your own style is all about you. You have your own vision and preferences that no one else has, so make use of this! This is what makes YOU different, which is so important today with millions of people creating content on social media. Never underestimate or forget about your own perspective, because everyone has a different view on certain things and this can be very powerful. So post photos and content that you genuinely love!

I hope these tips are helpful for some of you!

I’m totally in the middle of this process! I used to keep everything warm and faded, and through some stalking of my favorite accounts, I’ve decided to try out bright+high contrast. Lots of over-exposure. We’ll see how my feed looks in a couple of weeks I guess 🙂

What I really love about these style experiments and feed changes is that you can see what followers are really with you.. for you! Of course there’s nothing wrong with following someone for a particular feed, but seeing who supports you when you’re experimenting is something special, I think.

I love your feed so far! Clean minimalism and the equal balance between makeup, fashion, and #girlboss inspo is seriously what I’m going for as well (plus a little travel, when applicable).

Keep up the good work, girlie! You’ve totally got a new subscriber!

Ahh thank you so much girl! This is the most lovely comment! I’m sure your feed with look great with a more clean and minimalistic feel, and I completely agree with you that it’s a great way to find out who your true followers are. There will always be people who won’t like the changes, but I think that doing what you personally like is the most important! Thanks again and I will definitely check out you Instagram and blog
